Customer Review: DVD/CD writer/player for new HP Mini 1000 and other netbooks.

Little device with universal voltage power adapter seems great companion to netbooks, for travel. Plays standard DVDs, music CDs, but most importantly allows installations of software from CD/DVD media. Also allows easy CD or DVD creation, especially important for netbooks with limitted space solid state memory disc (no hard disk that is).

My old Sony in-computer DVD writer, connected to computer motherboard bus (perhaps PATA, or SATA ?), checked speed test at 3.5X using potent 2.8 GHz Intel processor and fast memory bus.

This external USB 2.0 DVD writer reached test speed of 2.6X on the HP Mini 1000 netbook that has much slower (1.6 GHz) and simple CPU.

The HP Mini 1000 does not have built-in CD/DVD drive, like most other netbooks.

The writer came with only USA AC line plug adapter, and European plug adapter was missing. Apparently the package was already open or used, and the extra adapter was not delivered. Even though the power supply is universal 110 - 240 VAC, you will need AC pug adapter for foreign travel.
